Anxiety disorders require treatment

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Anxiety makes life hard. It turns life into existence that is full of fears and worries. People are no longer sure they are happy to be a part of this world and it stops them from having a healthy mind. Anxiety and depression are two famous factors that lead to suicides and despair steps.

We all agree that anxiety should be treated but patients need care. They have to feel safe, not vulnerable, as vulnerability in some cases gives the similar impact as attempts of self-violence.

Before any treatment begins we have to try to analyze the circumstance and reasons of anxiety appearance. It is not even a question to discuss whether you have to get medical assistance or not – it is a must. Doctors have to perform a total examination of the body to figure out and conclude whether the patient really has anxiety or not, which anxiety disorders can those be and what else can affect the state of mind of the patient.

It is important for people to understand that the treatment is supposed to be different and absolutely individual for each and everyone. Doctors have to be extremely attentive with their patients when it comes to determination of the issue. It happens so that sometimes some persons have other problems with health that need to be treated as well as anxiety or even before the anxiety treatment begins.

If anxiety disorder is not new to you, please inform your doctor about it and be ready to name the drugs you used. If it is a certain pill or other medication, write down the dose, the period of time you were on it, what was the impact or the result at the end of the treatment. If you had psychotherapy please don’t forget to describe it to your doctor, mentioning how often did the sessions take place and what kind of psychotherapy it was in general. Even the smallest detail may matter.

You have to remember that it is not possible to cope with anxiety on your own. You need a person that will work together with you for a good purpose, defending your interests and ideas, being on your team. That person is your doctor. Together with the healthcare specialist you will find the perfect solution for yourself. If something doesn’t come out the way you wanted it to do, don’t get upset. Give it enough tries to make it give a result. At times we are eager to believe we failed before we actually gave it a possibility to happen. Don’t do that to yourself. Hope should always be present as without it nothing really matters.

There are two ways of getting out of anxiety state. There is psychotherapy, as we already mentioned and there is prescribed medication. Both of them are effective against depression and anxiety. Xanax is the name of the drug doctors often prescribe for the patients who suffer from panic disorders and anxiety problems. It gives magnificent results to those who follow a particular treatment schedule that is set by the doctor. If used without assistance drug can be extremely dangerous. Xanax comes with a package of side-effects that will definitely not leave you indifferent if taken more than a few weeks. You have to make sure you don’t get dependent on it as it is known for being very strong. If you feel like something is out of order, if you start to notice having memory and coordination problems, fatigue, irritability, and increased appetite – please inform your doctor about those. He will know what to help you with.

The iPhone has an App, better than accutane

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Sometimes, there’s more than enough blame to go around when it comes to the most annoying of song lyrics. In this case, we have the tedious Katrina & The Waves, the gospel rock of The Rolling Stones, the bland Roxette, and the “inspirational” work by Van Morrison and Cliff Richard. These songs focus on the idea that, when light shines on you, there can only be beneficial outcomes. This gives additional credibility to the new App available for download at $1.99 from iPhone. Let’s face it, everything offered for sale in the App Store has been vetted and approved by Apple itself. This is the AcneApp. Most importantly, you are not paying for the download of an advertisement for a product or service. This App has been developed by Dr. Greg Pearson. You will be pleased and relieved to know this man is a qualified dermatologist based in Houston. When it comes to acne, this man knows his spots. It works by flashing blue and red lights on to your skin while you have the phone clasped to your face. In theory, these flashing lights help kill the bacteria responsible for causing acne.

When writing a review about a new App for the iPhone, it’s somewhat unconventional to point out that, for $1.99, you can buy a small bar of soap. Unless we missed something in Science 101, soap is slightly more effective than light. And, in terms of looking cool, do people really want to walk around holding an iPhone to their noses? That said, Dr. Pearson is pleasingly refreshing. He gave an interview to the prestigious New York Times. When asked whether his App was effective, he admitted there had been no clinical trials. There had been some before-and-after pictures floating around on YouTube, and he volunteered to judge all pictures sent to him. But, so far, there’s no evidence this App will have any measurable effect on your acne. This actually makes it a “good science” story, right up there with the stories about the electromagnetic radiation from the handphone causing tumors if you use them for long periods of time.

Put this story another way – this App is almost completely harmless and costs you only a token sum. It will make a good joke to amuse your friends for a day or so. But the real treatment for acne remains the range of products starting with hydrogen peroxide and, when all else has failed, finishing with accutane. So far, there has been no other drug developed that matches accutane for effectiveness. When the treatment of acne has become such a massive source of profit, it remains faintly puzzling that no pharmaceutical company has managed to develop something new. But, as it stands, for those of you with acne that resists the “ordinary” treatments, you either have to learn to live with the disfigurement or run the risks of accutane. Always discuss the use of this drug with your regular healthcare professional. The decision is a careful balance between benefits and costs. You must be sure the benefits outweigh the costs before deciding to use this drug.

Helpful weight loss tips

There are countless medications on the market these days that all promise incomparable weight loss effects over a short period of time. Of course, you are free to buy them and try them but there’s only a small percentage of these pills that actually work. Do you have the time and will to spend on looking for these solutions and trying to get some benefits with them? If yes, maybe it’s better that you put them in a whole other direction, trying to overcome overweight and obesity the natural way that is really effective. There are no side effects to changing your lifestyle towards a healthier way of doing things, and the following tips will help you outline your weight loss plan step by step. Remember, the more tips you put in use the better will be the overall effect for you.

Change your regimen

It’s the most important change in your lifestyle and probably the hardest one. If you like eating burgers and candy it will be a hard transition but a necessary one. If you don’t change your diet other lifestyle changes won’t have much sense and effectiveness. Stop eating red meats and switch to fish and poultry, avoid fried foods and process them by roasting, baking or grilling them. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables, eat more greens and less chocolate and artificial sweets. And what you drink is also a point for concern. Forget about cola or any other soda drinks! They are sometimes richer in calories than a chocolate bar, and who needs that? Instead drink simple or mineral water and make sure you drink a lot of it.

Keep your emotions within limits

In many cases increased food intake is caused by emotional stress. People are “eating out” their problems with junk food and sedating their feeling by filling their stomachs. Such mode of conduct can lead to psychological food dependency that is quite similar to drug or alcohol abuse. Learn how to deal with your feelings without putting food into your mouth. Eliminate frustration by jogging or working out instead of eating chips and watching TV.

Keep on moving

Lack of physical activity and bad diet is a devastating combination that will lead to overweight and obesity faster than you can even notice and the only thing that will be left is to buy Acomplia and learn the hard way of loosing weight. Instead, you can switch to a more active way of life aimed at fitness and exercise. Start jogging, walking, exercising, doing yoga or swimming. Go to the gym and embark on a group fitness program if you have weak self-encouragement abilities. Just do something rather than sit around and watch TV or sleep. And the more calories you are loosing while doing it the better!

Use weight loss pills

While not being a stand-alone solution for weight loss, diet pills can be a very helpful instrument for achieving maximum effectiveness with other tips discussed above. Drugs like Acomplia help control food cravings and calorie intake, which is really helpful for changing your regimen and loosing fat through exercise. Discuss the possibility of using such drugs with your physician and make sure they are only an addition, not the main instrument for reducing weight. This way you will gain maximum effect with minimum trouble and drawback.

It won’t make you go blind

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

It’s strange how the warnings given when you are young can still haunt you years later. Very early, parents and teachers muttered darkly that it will make you go blind. This is a terrible warning to give a growing child. Everything in the world is shiny and new. You are just starting to drink in all the sights, sounds and new experiences. It goes way beyond the use of guilt and ordinary fear. This is the demonization of a natural activity that helps you learn about the way in which you body works. At a time when you should be exploring the relationship between your body and your emotions, you are left with nothing but frustration. Until you find a willing partner that is. Then the world takes on a different look and feel as “natural” emotions start to flow. Except you then run into a whole new set of barriers. Abstinence is the preferred message in modern education for growing children.

By a curious coincidence, the labels on the drugs used to treat dysfunction also refer to various risks connected to eyesight. This is not a threat made to deter adults. Rather, it refers to a side effect experienced by some of the men who take the drugs. A very small number of men have reported a slight blurring of their vision, often accompanied by a blue tinge to what is seen. One or two have experienced a complete loss of vision. This latter is so remote a possibility that it can almost immediately be dismissed. The average man is never going to find his vision disappearing. To discover the extent of the risk of mere blurring, there has been a recent clinical trial involving almost 250 healthy men. None of the men had any problems with their vision and their eyes were tested before, during and after taking the relevant drugs (or a placebo) over a six month period.

The results were recently published and show no change to the eyesight of any of the men who participated. There are two minor comments that take the edge of the goodness of the news. The first is that the participants were given low doses of generic viagra. In the real world, the men who reported problems were all taking up to the maximum daily dose. Thus, the strength of the evidence is limited by the need to produce an ethical study. Researchers should not knowingly design a clinical trial likely to injure the participants. Secondly, none of the participants had any existing problem with their eyes. Again, the men who reported problems all had less than perfect vision. The study therefore suggests that it’s perfectly safe to take viagra. It will not make you go blind if you are taking a lower dose and you have no existing problems with your eyesight. Because this represents most men, this study confirms viagra’s reputation as safe and effective.

Danger of modern life

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

No matter how far back in time you travel, you will always find stories about men having problems. In most of the early plays, poetry and literature, the unfortunates are held up for our pity and, sometimes, our amusement. So long as men are supposed to be the ones with all the power in society, loss of power in the bedroom equals loss of manhood. They almost become less than men. In the earliest times when it was customary to punish some men as the price of specific work opportunities, this produced a significant irony. It was the difference between physical emasculation as a career choice and those whose equipment simply refused to work properly. Such men became lower even than the lower caste. They were as far down in the social ladder as it was possible to go and still count as human. Even women were considered above them!

In modern times, shame and humiliation continue to haunt men whose performance levels flag. Despite the now medically verified fact that all men slowly lose potency as they age, there remains an expectation that nothing should ever prevent a real man from engaging. Until recently, no-one knew how many men were affected. Only a few were ever prepared to admit their problems. With the launch of a tablet as a treatment, floodgates opened and tens of thousands of men made a desperate plea for help. That gave an unofficial number for those affected. But the launch of the online pharmacy drove the problem back underground. With men able to get the drugs without a prescription, we are back to guesswork. But one thing does seem clear. The number of men seeking help is rising more than might be expected.

The probable reasons are modern lifestyles. There’s increased stress in the pace of life and changes in gender roles. As expectations of greater equality rise, men find their traditional dominance under threat. Add in the changes in diet and the lack of exercise, and men come under greater pressure as obesity threatens. As body weight rises, so to do the risks of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. If men are content with life as a couch potato, drinking lots of beer and smoking, dysfunction is the most likely first symptom of serious underlying health problems.

Although viagra has an unmatched reputation as a safe and effective way of treating dysfunction, there comes a point when even the little blue pill cannot work its magic. The reality is that, if diabetes goes untreated, there will be nerve damage that prevents it. Similarly, that could happen if there is damage to the arterial system. The message is simple and clear. That means you should take care to eat less fatty food in smaller portions and exercise more. Keeping your weight in check and leading a less stressful life will keep you going longer. If there are problems, viagra will always help even if you are leaving your sixtieth decade and entering your seventieth.

Acne and discrimination

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

There is a terrible sexism about acne. Let’s start with a little biology. Every human being on the planet has sebaceous glands in their skin. It’s a part of the natural process which helps keep skin supple, flexible and waterproof. For reason not entirely clear, but probably connected with genetics and hormone levels, these glands can be triggered into producing too much oil. If this happens, the oil pools in the pores and traps the dead cells that would otherwise fall from the skin. Unfortunately, this is the perfect breeding ground for many of the different bacteria growing naturally on everyone’s skin. One of these bacteria causes infections and the spots. So acne should affect people equally and regardless of gender. During the teen years, the balance between the sexes is reasonably even, but once we include the full lifespan, it affects more women than men. This unfairness would not matter except for one thing. The majority of cultures around the world have reached agreement on what “beauty” looks like. So, when you see images of people in the mass media, faces are flawless. Thanks to photoshop and other similar wonders of technology, every blemish or hint of a spot can be airbrushed away, leaving a perfectly smooth, uniform area of skin.

When the reality of people does not match the images of perfection, this causes anxiety and despair. People with any kind of facial or obvious blemish are singled out for adverse comment. The cause is put down to poor lifestyle choices and practices. People have acne because they do not wash or eat the wrong food. They are imperfect and ugly. This is wonderful news for manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. What cannot be cured with a drug (e.g. accutane), can be covered up with a heavy foundation powder. In more extreme cases, there is always cosmetic surgery, where faces and bodies can be redesigned to match these impossible images of beauty. The world focuses on the differences from the ideal. One side of the line is successful. The other never rises above the pack. You only have to look at women in the public eye to see the pressure on them to stay young and beautiful, no matter what it costs. When it comes to acne, the hormone balance in women is affected during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and the menopause. Using oral contraceptives can stabilise the hormone levels but, when it comes to planning a family, there is literally nothing that can be done. The one drug that more or less absolutely guarantees an end to acne cannot be taken during pregnancy. Accutane causes damage to unborn children.

Life is never fair but it tends to be more unfair on women. They are expected to conform to these unachievable standards of beauty and we then judge them harshly when they fail. Worse, the one drug that can and does represent an effective treatment for acne can be taken safely by almost every boy and man on the planet, but not by women who may conceive. How can this not be the worst case of discrimination of all time. For years, the manufacturers have only helped males cure acne. Women can only use this drug if they make it impossible to conceive while taking it. Women who want a family must endure acne.

Sleep Disorders In Children

Friday, March 12th, 2010

It might be a shock to you to discover that kids have numerous sleep problems that are able to impact how well a child sleeps, and how much benefit they receive out of the sleep they do get. Some accounts have shown that thirty percent of kids have challenging sleep troubles when they’re young.

Believe it or not, kids can have problems such as sleep walking, nightmares and possibly even more severe problems like sleep apnea and other grave breathing circumstances. Many people may not be aware of the fact that children during their school aged years need to get between nine and twelve hours sleep but unfortunately, many children get considerably less than that.

There are other sleep problems such as grinding of the teeth, bed wetting, and even banging their head are believed to be a serious conditions if they happen while sleeping. The most usual of these sleep troubles come in the form of nightmares sleep walking and sleep talking but they are still much less harmful than other types.

If a child has a sleep walking problem, then parents must work to put up safety measures with regards to this sleep disorder so it won’t end up in injury for the child. This can be done by ensuring the house is free of dangers. Most children outgrow any harmful sleep troubles by the time they reach their teenage years.

It is vital to seek help from a doctor in cases of head banging, nightmares, wetting the bed, grinding teeth and sleep apnea symptoms. All of these could be signs that there are more severs problems if they occur in their older years. Fortunately, the majority of these conditions have an age limit at which most kids will completely grow out of them.

Think about the symptoms of child sleep troubles if their concentration in class is lacking, or they cannot stay awake. You might notice them nodding off when they are talking to someone, in a car, or when they are in class or reading a book. These may be signs that a sleep problem is happening with your child in the evenings. For sleep apnea consider the following symptoms, chronic mouth breathing, and problems with performance in school or restless sleep.

The best things about these types of sleep problems is that they just so happen to be the simplest to cure and mostly can be due to a simpler malady. Don’t worry unless your child shows signs which may put them at risk you can rest easy knowing that kids will tend to grow out of their sleep disorders. However, if you are still having concerns then talking to your doctor can give you a number of suggestions on what you can do at home to help your child.

You must consider that in children with troubled sleep there are psychological considerations that will influence how well your child sleeps. Your primary care provider may request a consultation with a psychologist on behalf of your child to check for any problems such as ADHD.

Modern Aromatherapy: It’s Not Just About Aroma Anymore!

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Therapeutic use of essential oils in the alternative health and wellness arena is on the rise; more and more people are venturing beyond mainstream ‘aroma’ therapy and finding the value in true therapeutic grade Aromatherapy products. Education regarding the efficacy of essential oils in treating certain illness has been hard to come by in the US, a symptom of much of the natural health industry. There is in fact, legislation floating around Congress (which has already been enacted in Europe) to limit your access to natural medicines, which may include essential oils. Why? Because the pharmaceutical companies in the highest-profit industry on earth, want your business. This is one reason Aromatherapy has not gotten beyond the ‘aroma’ part, and why essential oils have yet to take their proper place in your holistic medical care.

Essential oils offer inexpensive, effective treatments for many ailments, free from side-effects of over-the-counter or prescription drugs. Whether the very limited and overtly skeptical presentation of Aromatherapy in the mainstream media is driven by the big money involved with institutional medicine remains to be clarified. In the meantime, YOU have the ways and means to include essential oils in your own natural medicine program. There are a great many resources available to the lay-practitioner to determine which oils and how they can best be applied for the improvement of your own health and wellness. Let’s have a look at what the science of Aromatherapy is really about…

There is an amazing disregard for natural healing in the mainstream media – despite the fact that so many of today’s ‘modern medicines’ are derived directly from plant compounds. There are HUNDREDS of plants that are known to contain anti-cancer compounds, for example. Many of these without the side-effects of chemotherapy (it takes a skilled, knowledgeable Naturopathic doctor to develop an effective personal protocol for this type of work, but success is certainly possible). This brings us to the amazing derision placed upon the science of Aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is purely the science of therapeutic use, for physiological as well as psychological imbalances and disorders, of naturally-produced volatile aromatic plant chemicals. It may be that the term ‘Aromatherapy’ lends itself to being pigeon-holed into mystical ‘new age’ hocus-pocus, but in reality, it is simply the practice of using a particular class of natural compounds to improve one’s health, wellness and well-being.

The education seems inevitable, however. As more folks get fed up with the costs and red tape of our Allopathic medical system, they are paying more attention to reports on the efficacy of natural remedies. The use of essential oils has been shown as, if not more, than any other available medicine in certain instances. For Irritable Bowel Syndrome, a painful and debilitating condition, Peppermint essential oil taken during and after bouts of the disease has profound effects on pain, duration, and recurrence of the illness – more so than the most commonly used modern medical treatment. Patients using Peppermint oil felt better than those using conventional treatments, in part because the natural antibiotic effect leaves much needed intestinal flora in balance. It is this balance that is inherent in knowledgeably practiced natural medicine; a facet which occurs with essential oils and many other so-called alternative therapies.

Another well documented treatment using essential oils is the use of Melissa essential oil on Herpes Simplex viral legions. The legions are outbreaks of the virus during times of undue stress; the virus is typically under control of the immune system and remains dormant in nerve endings of the skin – the disease is considered ‘incurable’ by conventional medicine. A great many university studies have evaluated Melissa (and other essential oils containing similar molecular components) and it’s efficacy in treating Herpes – and the results have been astounding. A majority of study participants have less pain, along with shorter and less-frequent outbreaks. One professor claims that the disease has gone into complete remission in some study participants with regular use of Melissa oil; no more outbreaks at all! Further, Melissa is very well tolerated, has no known toxic effects, and is readily available. This is true aroma-’therapy’ taking it’s place in the world of natural health, wellness and fitness.

The ‘aroma’ therapeutic effects of essential oils are not to be overlooked, however. As the importance of the mind-body connection is developed in conventional medicine, natural medicine has taken it into account all along. And the connection between the olfactory sense and the emotional centers of the brain are a strong one – more direct than any other of the five senses. Many studies have resulted with participants noting improved moods, sharper minds and lowered stress levels after inhaling essential oils. Lavender is well documented in its effects for improving sleep and bringing a sense of relaxation without sedation. As research continues, we’ll be reading more and more about the true therapeutic effects of smells, and the synergistic psychological and physiological effects of essential oils.

Aromatherapy in a natural health, wellness and fitness regime is not a cure-all, miracle path to health, however. Like any other medicine or treatment, it has it’s place, and should be used when it provides the best combination of safety and efficacy. How do you find out if essential oils can help you, your friends or your loved ones? Educate yourself! There are several wonderful books available on medical and clinical aromatherapy. Some will deal mostly with the psychological aspects, others mainly in treatment of infectious illness, and others touch on every conceivable application. Buy them, get them from your library, borrow them from friends – but educate yourself as much as possible, and find a degreed practitioner if need be. But most of all, give Aromatherapy a chance. The particular class of plant compounds called ‘essential oils’, which just happen to smell nice, have as much validity as any other field of medicine, and deserves to be appreciated with the same respect. Whether they work for you is up to your own knowledge and dedication to the practice!

How To Reduce Snoring At Night Fast

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Figuring out how to reduce snoring at night can become a difficult task. The major problem with figuring out a way to prevent snoring is the fact that it affects a huge majority of the population at different times. Some people face the problem for a long period of time while others suffer through it for a day or two. In order to prevent the problem, you should pay close attention to yourself and see which of the techniques are most effective.

Breathing exercises like yoga can be a great help to your problem. Breathing problems tend to be the major cause of the condition. Strengthening the muscles that help you breathe is a good way to prevent snoring. Some possible reasons why your muscles are weak include smoking and drinking. You should also try and reduce drinking and smoking, so that snoring stops as fast as possible.

If yoga or the other exercises are not effective, you should try to elevate your head and neck. Do this by using a pillow. This should hopefully solve the problem

Something else you can try is losing some weight. If you have a lot of fat in your body you have a greater chance of snore. This means that if you reduce the amount of fat you have, there is a greater chance you won’t snore.

Sleeping well is another good way to stop snoring. If you sleep at odd hours and do not get enough of it, you should consider sleeping more. When you are extremely tired, your body has a tendency to go into a deeper sleep. This can cause heavy snoring. If you sleep better you should be able to stop this problem.

If these techniques do not work, you might want to consider talking to a doctor. There might be some other condition causing the snoring and you should get it checked.

Knowing how to stop snoring at night might be difficult because there are many causes for snoring. It is a problem a huge majority of people face, but for differing time periods. Good news is that snoring exercises can actually help!

How To Lose Winter Weight

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

There are a few exercises you can do for stomach weight loss. This area is the hardest on the body to lessen the fat content. This is because in other areas (like your arms, buttocks, and legs) you can simply tone them and they respond well to the toning. With your stomach, you can tone all you want and great ab muscles will develop–underneath a layer of fat.

Start with cardio and a good diet. Nothing else reduces your stomach weight, sadly. All over movement is the only thing that will rid you of it. Thankfully, cardio can mean hundreds of things. Swimming is a great recreational cardio exercise, as is running, biking, dancing, and even gardening. Whatever you do, make sure you are moving around a lot and breaking a sweat. Get your heart racing.

Simple lifestyle changes can really add up. If you take the elevator all the time, take the stairs. If you drive to the store down the block, just walk there. Walk your dog more frequently. Use an exercise bike while you read a book or watch television. Stand instead of sit whenever you possibly can. Even vacuuming or washing the dishes burns more calories than just sitting around.

Whenever you do any of this movement, hold your stomach in as much as you can and feel your muscle clench. This will get you in the habit of doing that. It keeps your abs taut and shapes them slightly while you do not realize it. It is a small technique that can be done anywhere and should be done everywhere. It will also give you a more flattering shape by holding your stomach more in.

For toning exercises, you could do a lot worse than simple crunches. These are the staple for just about every ab work out because they work. These are far easier on your back and neck than sit ups, which are just a pain and do not work that well. Lay down on your back and put your hands behind your head. Lift your legs straight up in the air and then bend your knees at a right angle. Pull your legs into your chest at the same time as you lift your shoulders up and forward off the ground.

Sit ups can be bad for stomach fat because if you do it wrong and do not suck it, sit ups will not create lean muscle. It will make more bulbous muscle that will push your stomach out more. With the fat on top of it, your tummy will end up looking a lot bigger than it really is. You want to go for lean muscle.

Another big way to vamp up your exercises is to get a large rubber exercise ball. These balls are noted for being good for your back and for giving you challenging work outs in a comfortable way. For example, once you get used to crunches and your body does not respond quite as positively to them any more, you can do them on an exercise ball in order to target slightly different muscle groups.

These balls are great for almost any exercise and can target your abs in ways you never thought. It is good to get as much variation as you can since your body tends to get used to repetitive movements. Just be careful you do not lose your balance!

Check out how to have that stomach weight loss you have been hoping for. With several choices of weight loss meals to help you out. Head online now and learn more.
